Need 2-3 more clients but zero marketing bandwidth left?

Not gonna lie, Reader, August was 💯.

  • 3 nights camping in the Lake District 🇬🇧
  • 4 morning cold plunges and 3 midnight swims 🏊‍♀️
  • 4 nights camping in Suffolk ⛺️
  • 1 Intergalactic Safari Frogfest Wedding with the SA cousins 🐸🇿🇦
  • 2 hours learning traditional Scottish cèilidh dancing 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
  • 1 hour coaxing my 9-year-old off the dance floor because 12:30am was way past her bedtime (and mine) 💃
  • 1 rough night's sleep because my air mattress had a leak 🥴
  • 1 rough night's sleep because our loaned tent was not waterproof ⛈️
  • 1 million glorious walks through the English countryside cos-playing Jane Eyre 🤸🏼‍♂️

Oh, and one major case of whiplash when I returned to my desk, jet-lagged and disoriented a week ago.

I should start marketing my services for 2027, but I have no bandwidth (or desire) to do so.

Thankfully, July-Courtney did something post-vacation and time-crunched Courtney has never been more grateful for.

I wrote and scheduled a “[BP Client] Special Edition" email.

If you’re new, or don’t remember, I broke down my quarterly client-only newsletter last January.

I mentioned how this email practice alone generated $40K in revenue. (Give it a read bc I share the template and the copywriting from an email I sent to past clients and “friends” of BP.)

July-Courtney decided to send one additional email and segment my client list into two buckets: Corporate Clients and Founders.

Why?

Because September’s priorities are different for both audiences, and my email copy needs to name different problems.

Corporate clients on a calendar fiscal year are getting ready to submit their 2027 budgets for approval.

→ I wanna be a line item now, not an afterthought in February.

Founders and creatives have both back-to-school energy and a tendency to prioritize the wrong things first. (Mostly because we solopreneurs make business decisions based on what we see others doing…or shall I say, “performing”. 😉)

→ I wanna stop my friends from spending money on the wrong things—especially when gas is $6 a gallon.

And in both cases, I wanna be the person they call when there are many decent paths forward and no obvious winner.

This was never just a lead-gen play. I want my clients to remember I'm a good person to think out loud with. I'm also a business owner, and I’m watching consumer trends closely.

The Results:

✔️ 4 email replies

  • 3 replies came from my Founder list
  • 1 reply came from my Corporate list*

✔️ 4 consultation calls (one Voxxer) booked

✔️ 65% Open Rate

✔️ 9% CTR

I want to be clear—I'm not showing up to these calls with a deck or a sales script. If work comes my way, great. But goodwill has a way of returning the favor eventually.

As my mentor Jessica Lackey taught me about Relationship Rhythms, “The conversations you're having TODAY are your revenue 3-6 months from now.

^^isn’t that a damn good voice-of-client copy pull? 😉

Which is why I keep this rhythm even in the months I have nothing left to give my own marketing.

So this is your sign, Reader. Open your client list, find the names you haven't talked to since the spring, and send this email.

I promise you can put yourself out there and still feel good about how you do it.

xxBack to writing 10 editorial articles about lions, tigers, and bears, oh, my!

*My corporate client DM'd me on LinkedIn and mentioned they’d read through my past posts and wanted to reconnect to talk about future work together. On the call, they also mentioned the email I sent, all proving that multiple marketing touchpoints with consistent brand messaging WORKS.

"Around here, we’re not trying to make a killing. We’re just trying to make a living,” Liz said in their announcement episode.

Lex Roman's article about why Pat Flynn passed on an 8-figure offer to sell Smart Passive Income to Liz Wilcox instead. "She wants to highlight case studies from more accessible creators on the podcast, not just the most famous one," writes Roman. "I get that business is about money, but our businesses are not just about money. If they were, more of us would work in finance or military defense where that money actually is."

Can I get an AMEN?
